The Gregg family has branches in Scotland, Ireland, the United States, and Canada.
William Gregg was born in Killycreen, County Donegal, Ireland, in 1817. In 1843 he obtained a B.A from Glasgow University and in 1844 an M.A. from Edinburgh. He obtained his licentiate from the Presbytery of Edinburgh in 1845 and committed himself to three years service as a missionary in Canada under the direction of the Presbytery of Kingston. He soon accepted a call to the united congregations of Belleville, Huntingdon and Tyendinaga. The last two became a separate charge within a year and the Rev.Mr. Gregg remained in Belleville from 1847 to 1857. In 1857 he moved to Toronto where he served as minister of Cooke's Church until 1872. He was a member of the faculty of Knox College, University of Toronto, from 1867 to 1895 when he retired. In 1878 he received a Doctorate of Divinity from the University of Honour.
William Rufus Gregg, the eldest son of Rev. William Gregg, became an architect and worked in various areas including Chicago, Montreal, Ottawa, Boston, Detroit, and Albany. he was active in Toronto for over 40 years and was involved in the construction of Bloor Street Church among other projects. He was interested in watching and studying the development of cities and he wrote on several aspects of the history of Toronto.

John MacLeod Gill (1848-1921) and his brother James Gill, owned and operated James Smart Manufacturing in Brockville, producers of hardware, tools, heaters etc. He and his wife Mary Catherine Margaret Purkis Gill had three daughters, Anne, Bessie, and Mary Roberta and a son, Robert. In 1913 Mary Roberta married Rev. Norman MacLeod, Presbyterian minister and moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Brockville.

Gildersleeve (family)

Henry Gildersleeve (1776-1851), expert shipwright, came to Bath to participate in the construction of the S.S. Frontenac which commenced in 1815. The S.S. Frontenac was the first stemaboat to operate on the Great Lakes. In 1818 he participated in the construction of the "Queen Charlotte" after which he moved to Kingston. He continued in the shipbuilding trade while also becoming owner and operator of steamboats on Lake Ontario and the Bay of Quinte. The family continued in this business for nearly 100 years entering the steamship merger of 1913. Henry Herchmer Gildersleeve, grandson, continued in active steamboat operation service as manager of Northern Navigation Company until 1930, dying at Ottawa in 1933. His father, Charles Fuller Gildersleeve (1833-1906) had also served for many years as General Manager of the Richelieu & Ontario Navigation Company. Four-time magistrate Overton Gildersleeve (1825-1864) served as the mayor of Kingston in 1855, 1856, and 1861-62.

Horatio Nelson Garrett was the fifth or eight children born to William Robert and Abigail Garrett. William Robert Garrett owned a ditillery and brewery on King Street as well as a number of properties about town, and upon his death Horatio seems to have been placed in charge of the management of the rather large estate. Upon Horatio's death on July 17, 1871, the estate was managed by the Kirkpatrick Nickle law firm for a number of years.
