The Ukrainian community of Kingston began to coalesce in the 1940's, although there had been a small number of Ukrainians living in Kingston throughout the interwar period and were a small number who had resided in Kingston just prior to the First World War.
The Ukrainian Canadian Club of Kingston was founded in 1980 as a result of differences of opinion about the use of the Parish Hall. The Club was focussed on supporting the political, cultural and social traditions, in particular the two dance troupes which were in the community: Ukrainian Dorist Dancers and the Ukrainian Maky Dancers. The mandate of the Group was to preserve and promote Ukrainian Heritage. It is unknown when the Kingston branch of the Canadian League for the Liberation of Ukraine was officially formed, though it is known that the national organization was founded in 1949. The group was formed of mainly third-wave Ukrainian immigrants and thought to be quite political. Throughout the era of the Cold War the League was one of the national groups at the forefront of defending the human and national rights of Ukraine. They supported Ukraine’s struggle for independence and other captive nations opposing Soviet Russian domination. St. Michael the Arcangel Ukrainian Catholic Church was founded in 1949 and a decade later a hall was built at 472 Bagot Street and used primarily for meetings, folk dancing and banquets. The Parish services moved to the Hall in 1980, prior to this it was held at St. Mary's Cathedral.
The Ukrainian Parish Hall as served as meeting place and home to the Ukrainian Canadian Club and the Canadian League for the Liberation of Ukraine at one time or another.

In 2011 Janice McAlpine and Renée van Weringh proposed that they work with Queen's University Archives to establish and develop an archival collection pertaining to the Kingston Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer 2 Spirited community. Documentation of gay and lesbian life has been scant. Lesbians and gay men have often destroyed or concealed records of same-sex relationships, and when they have not, family and society at large have frequently stepped in posthumously to expunge the evidence. The resulting dearth of information about queer lives has made growing up and coming out difficult for the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, transsexual, two-spirited, and queer) contingent of each generation.
This is not a recent problem or a local one, but it is one with local implications: although some large centres have lesbian and gay archives, such as Toronto’s Lesbian and Gay Archives, the regional record of gay and lesbian life in Canada is almost nonexistent.

This collection is comprised of indices created for various Queen's University publications and/or people and organizations. For example, the Faculty Index lists Queen's faculty and staff across a variety of Queen's University publications such as the Principal's report, Queen's Journal, Douglas LIbrary Notes etc. There are also indices specific to individual Queen's University publications, such as Queen's Alumni Review, Queen's Gazette and Queen's Quarterly.

Men in Black was a Kingston-based drag king troupe that performed at a number of events and venues.

The Queen's University calendars contain general information about the University; listings and details of courses on offer in each year; requirements for degrees; lists of faculty and students, as well as lists of graduates and academic prize recipients; and a variety of other information that can vary from year to year in each publication. There have been a variety of calendars over the years, sometimes encompassing the whole University and sometimes separated out into schools.
