The compilation of cemetery recordings in Ontario is an ongoing project co-ordinated by the Ontario Genealogical Society (OGS). The majority of the recordings have been presented by the Ottawa, Kingston and Toronto branches of the OGS, although several individuals have also contributed to the collection.
Robert James Uffen was born in Toronto in 1923. He graduated from Danforth Technical College in 1940 and the following year enlisted in the Canadian Infantry Corps, transferring to the Royal Canadian Artillery in 1942 with the rank of Sergeant. Following the end of World War II in 1945, he entered the University of Toronto, graduating with a B.Sc (Engineering Science) in 1949. One year later he received his M.A. (Geo. Physics) from the same institution, and in 1952 was granted his Ph. D (Physics) from the University of Western Ontario. He then became a post-doctoral fellow at U.C.L.A. (1953-1954), where he worked with colleagues and students of J. Robert Oppenheimer. Beginning in 1953, he joined the Faculty of the University of Western Ontario, where he remained until 1966. During his years at U.W.O. he was Principal, University College of Arts and Science (1961-1966), and Dean of the College of Science (1965-1966). Dr. Uffen then left academe for the civil service when he was appointed Chairman of the Defence Research Board, a position he held from 1967 to 1969.He then accepted appointment to be Chief Science Adviser to the Cabinet, Privy Council Office, under Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau, a post he held from 1969 to 1971. In 1971, he accepted the positions of Dean, Faculty of Applied Science, Queen's University (a post held until 1980), and Professor of Geophysics (until his retirement in 1989). Dr. Uffen was also extensively involved in activities outside the university as a member of numerous Boards and Commissions and holds, or has held memberships and offices in a number of societies.
Peter Heriot Watson was born in Montreal, Quebec in 1932. He graduated from Royal Roads Military College in Victoria, British Columbia in 1952 and then returned to Central Canada where he attended the University of Toronto, receiving an Honours B.A. in 1955. Upon graduation he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy. While in the service he taught history and mathematics, as well as attending Acadia University at Wolfville, Nova Scotia, from where he received an M.A. in History in 1957. Following his retirement from the Navy, with the rank of Lieutenant-Commander, in 1959, he returned to the University of Toronto where he received his B.ED. For the next nine years he taught with the Etobicoke Board of Education. In 1968 he accepted a teaching position with the Faculty of Education at Queen's University. Mr. Watson was also active politically being deeply involved with both the Liberal Party of Canada and the Liberal Party of Ontario.

H.R. Stuart Ryan, (1910-2004 ) Q.C., D.C.L. was born in Newburg, Ontario. He graduated in 1930, in Classics, from Trinity College, University of Toronto, and from Osgoode Hall Law School, in 1933. He started a legal practice in Port Hope in 1934, returning there after serving in World War II. In 1941, he became Mayor of Port Hope, and Chairman of the Board of Education. When the Faculty of Law was established at Queen's University in 1957, Stuart Ryan, along with Daniel Soberman, were the first two teachers hired, H.R.S Ryan specializing in criminal law. He was well known as an advocate of civil liberties and human rights in society, especially in prisons. Harold Robert Stuart Ryan died at his home, in Kingston, Ontario, in April 2004, at age 93.
William Harrison Hays, American politician and motion-picture executive, was born 5 November, 1879 in Sullivan, Indiana. Hays became active in Indiana political affairs, was chairman of the Republican state committee, and served (191821) as chairman of the Republican National Committee. He was (192122) Postmaster General under President Harding. As president (192245) of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America, he administered the motion-picture moral code (popularly called the Hays Code), which was promulgated (1934) by agreement of the leading men of the industry.
