Nathan Ford was born at Morristown, N.J. in 1763. In 1779-80 he served with the continental armies, discharging his duties as assistant deputy quarter master general. In 1794-95 he was sent by land speculators to explore the northern part of the state and to examine and report upon several islands near Kingston being considered for purchase. During the War of 1812, he served as an agent for Samuel Ogden at Odgensburg, New York.

The Macaulay family came to Kingston, Upper Canada from Ireland in the late eighteenth century, and were involved in the civil service and the Church. Robert Macaulay (1744-1800) came to America from Ireland and took part in the Revolutionary War before moving to Upper Canada to work as a trader. John Macaulay (1792-1857) was a civil servant in Kingston, Ontario during the early nineteenth century. The Rev. William Macaulay (1794-1874), was a minister in Cobourg and Picton, Ontario during the nineteenth century.

Daniel McGuin (sometimes McGwin, McGuinn or McQuinn) had been a farmer, storekeeper, and potash manufacturer near Newboro, in Ulster County, New York. He was commissioned in Colonel Edmund Fanning's Associated Refugees or King's American Regiment. A man of this name was a captain in the King's Royal Regiment of New York. McGuin was afterwards appointed a captain of the Associated Loyalists. On November 3, 1783, he was at Sorel and petitioned fro relief or employment. McGuin was one of the first innkeepers in Kingston. He was also a land commissioner in 1788.
