Sweezey, Robert Oliver

Robert Oliver Sweezey, BSc., M.E.I.C., M.C.I.M.M. was born December 8, 1883 at Three Rivers, Quebec. After graduation from Queen's University, Kingston, with the BSc degree, he established himself as a Consulting Engineer, specializing in water, power, pulp and paper, timber lands, and financial reports. He was employed by a number of banking, investment, and public institutions before establishing his own business in 1921. R. O. Sweezey married Harriet Watson, daughter of Professor John Watson, Kingston, on April 27, 1911, and he continued to maintain close ties to Kingston although he resided in the Montreal suburb of Westmount for much of his life. He was a Trustee of Queen's University, and was on the staff of the Royal Military College in Kingston. He became involved in the investment dealership business and was a member of the Board of Directors of several companies. Sweezey was a pricipal in Beauharois scandal involving hydro power in Quebec. After Beauharnois, Sweezey was involved with several mining and power schemes, mainly in western Canada. The principal ones were the Ford-Highwood coal property in Alberta, and the Livingstone Range Syndicate. In 1968 R.O.Sweezey passed away at the age of 85.

Arthur William Symons (1865-1945) was born in Pembrokeshire, Wales the second child of a Wesleyan Methodisit minister, Reverend Mark Symons (1824-1898) and his wife Lydia Pascoe (1828-1896). Credited with familiarizing the English with French and Italian writing, he produced a several translations and an extensive collection of personal writing and poetry.

Treadwell, Charles Platt

Charles Platt Treadwell was the son of Nathaniel Treadwell and Margaret Platt. He returned to Canada in 1823 and after prolonged negotiation repossessed his father's property in Longueil. He made his home at L'Orignal, married Helen Macdonnell, and raised a family of four daughters. A strong Presbyterian, he donated land for a church, built of stone of which he was a trustee.
In 1834, Mr. Treadwell was appointed High Sheriff of Prescott and Russelllife. He was a pioneer in agricultural improvements, religious reform and in railway projects. He is said to have been the first Canadian to advocate for a Pacific Railway. He died at 71 years of age in 1873.
