General note

The British American Hotel was the oldest hostelry in Kingston. It was built in 1791 and was known as Royce Inn. In 1808 it changed ownership and was renamed the Walker House. Once again the name was changed in 1846 to the 'Kent House'. That name continued until 1866 when it was changed to the British American Hotel.
