Walter Dymond Gregory fonds

The fonds consists of correspondence, articles, notebooks and photographs from the earlier period of Gregory's career, involving the Weekly Sun and the Continental Union Movement, and from his later years having to do with public affairs. There is no correspondence of a purely personal nature. Noted personages who are well represented include Goldwin Smith, Henri Bourassa, Sir Wilfred Laurier and Mackenzie King. There is a large number of pamphlets, addresses and publication, relating specifically to commercial union, continental union, and Canada First; material relating to Goldwin Smith; a typewritten draft of Gregory's projected autobiography, which he never completed; as well as several letter-books, scrapbooks and diaries.

The papers consist of correspondence, diaries, writings, memorabilia and photographs. The papers are divided into two series: Correspondence of Anna Walling - prominent correspondents include Charlotte Perkins Gliman, Emma Goldman, and Selig Perlman, and Correspondence of Others - including correspondence of William English Walling, other family members and Leonard Abbott. The correspondence (1897-1964) which includes family, friends and political associates documents Walling's involvement in political causes. The letters also reveal Anna Walling's feelings on personal matters, social questions and her reactions to meetings with prominent persons both in the United States and abroad.

It also includes various writings, correspondence, lectures and addresses from his time of service on the Board of Trustees, and minutes and reports from the Queen's University Campus Planning committee as he also served on that committee for almost twenty years.

Fonds consists correspondence to and from Florence Tait and her family, student friends, and future husband, Stuart Schofield, while attending Queen's University at Kingston, and on travels to Europe and the Far East; subject files; diaries; and photographs and photo albums compiled by both Florence (Tait) and Stuart Schofield during their time as students at Queen's, with images of many interior and exterior shots of boarding houses, such as 44 Stuart Street; classmates; campus scenes with buildings and other University events such as the visist by H.R.H. the Duke of Connaught; Kingston and district scenes, including Macdonald Park with the Golden Lion and tulip bed, the waterfront (the "Old Ontario Strand"), S.S. Harmonic and Huronia; scenes in Western Canada in such locales as Winnipeg, Strathcona (Edmonton), Banff, the Geological Survey in the Rockies, Kootenays, and other British Columbia interior locations, aboriginal people at Illes des Prairies; geological consulting trips to Mexico and China; earthquake in Yokahama, Japan; summer excursions around Ontario, and to the West to Bulyea and Romford, Saskatchewan; Lake Superior; Quebec City; the Parliament Buildings and Library, and other views in Ottawa; the Canadian Expeditionary Force; visits to Edmonton, Vancouver, Victoria, and Vancouver Island. A number of the photos have also been hand coloured.
