Of particular note are the personal papers which contain military commissions for Maitland.The material has been arranged chronologically within the series and the correspondence has been indexed according to date and author/recipient.

This sous-fonds is a modest record of a the typical pioneer success story, following the fortunes of a son of an illiterate Irish immigrant to some financial success and civic respect in Kingston's early years. Although not documenting William's many careers as butcher, alderman, contractor or family man, the financial papers reflect his affairs in connection with his properties, his debtors, his stocks, his estate and the estate of his second wife, Amelia.
