Drake Portrait (No.66)

Item is a halftone magazine print of Sir Francis Drake, born circa 1540 and died 1596, an English sea captain, privateer, navigator, slaver, and politician during the Elizabethan era. He was the second to circumnavigate the world in a single expedition from 1577 to 1580. He was kighted by Elizabeth I in 1581.

He was a significant part of the Reform Bill of 1832 but retired in 1833 before becoming ambassador to Russia 1835 to 1837. In 1838 he went to Lower Canada to research the causes of the twin rebellions in Upper and Lower Canada and published his Report on the Affairs of British North America in 1839.
