Two scrapbooks; one bound in purple with gold lettering and inscribed on the first page. The 100 pages of this album have been numbered by machine, The other volume is bound in green and black with gold lettering andsome of its pages have been numbered by hand. Both books contain news clippings on matters concerning medicine, women's rights, spiritualism and political personages.
Fonds consists of extracts from letters home from overseas during World War One (1916); cash books and ledgers that provide very detailed information about Smails' household accounts; Gold Medal awarded by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (1920); stamp collection concentrating on Canada and Newfoundland, including both mint and used stamps.
This collection consists of a photocopy of a letter written by Robert Burns to the Duke of Queensberry in 1791 (the original is framed in Special Collections), and the Christie auction catalogue from where the letter was purchased.
