The fonds consists of correspondence, diaries, plays, articles, typscripts of writings, scrapbooks and photographs which illustrate the many aspects of Miss Edgar's career as camp director, writer, poet, hymn-writer, and social worker. The papers also contain some material relating to her family.

Nearly every Canadian literary figure of note for the period 1920 to 1960 is representedby at least some manuscript material in this collection. Also represented are Raymond Knister, Duncan Campbell Scott, Archibald Lampman, Camille Roy, Stephen Leacock, Marius Barbeau,Audrey Alexandra Brown, Earle Birney, Katherine Hale, A. J. Pratt and Al Purdy. Some papers of artists J.E. H. Macdonald, A. Y. Jackson, C.W. Jefferys and Thoreau Macdonald are included in this collection.

There is considerable material relating to her book, 'Celebrate This City.' The photographs are from books on the Ottawa Valley, Kingston, and the Dalton Sailing Album.

The South Carolina collection consists of two parts: Part 1: the Papers of James Henry Hammond, and Part 2, Miscellaneous Collections of Personal and Family Papers. James Henry Hammond (1807-1864) was a statesman and plantation owner in South Carolina. He served in the United States House of Representatives and Senate, and was Governor of South Carolina from from 1840 to 1842. The papers reflect his role as both statesman and planter, including records pertaining to agriculture, education, family life, the practice of law, politics and slave management.The Miscellaneous collections of Personal and Family papers includes: Samuel Porcher Gaillard Plantation journals; John Forsythe Talbert Plantation journals; a Caleb Coker Plantation book; James Trezevant Plantation diary and records; Glover family papers;a James Talbert Ouzts Plantation book; a David Milling Plantation book; John Ogilvie Medical Account books; a diary from Natalie DeLage Sumter; the papers of Mary Hart Means; Thomas family diaries; the papers of James Ritchie Sparkman; the John Stapleton papers; Thomas Cassells Law papers; John McPherson DeSaussure papers; Lewis Malone Ayer papers; the Read-Lance family papers; the Heyward family papers; John Ewing Colhoun papers; the Miller-Furman-Dabbs family papers; and the Hammond-Bryan-Cumming family papers.

Diary of a young woman touring the Thousand Islands for the month of August 1883 starting in Hartford, Connecticut on August 1st, 1883 and ending in Montreal on September 1st, 1883. The author spends much of the diary remarking on the beauty of the scenery, the quality of the food and variations in the weather. She recounts day excursions on both American and Canadian islands and towns and mentions Clayton, Alexandria Bay, Gananoque, Brown's Bay, Hay's Island, Whitney Point, Guernsey Point, and Stave, Bluff and Skinner islands. She is traveling with the Redfield family (Mr. and Mrs. Redfield and their children George and Henry) and the "Professor". They encounter a Dr. Norris who is known to the family. When they arrive in Montreal they stay at the Windsor Hotel, which is greatly admired.

There is an additional three page entry at the end of the diary describing a trip to the White Mountains in New Hampshire in September of 1885.

Original manuscript diary of Dr. Thomas Robinson Dupuis' trip to Europe in the spring and summer of 1881. Of particular note are his many visits to hospitals and medical schools - witnessing curriculum, operating procedures, as well as sitting an exam for a diploma from the Royal College of Surgeons.

There is a large decade gap in this set in the 1950's. Also included is a memoir and collected correspondence with various individuals, as well as a collection of Partington's publications from 1952 to 2005.
