University chaplain opens with a prayer, then Benedickson welcomes everyone and declares Smith principal of Queen's University. Smith then addresses the convocation with a speech. Afterwards Norton speaks on behalf of the provincial government in regards to the appointment. Smith then presents Jill Ker Conway, William McNeill, Henry Rosovsky, Erich Vogt, and Ronald Watts with an honourary doctorate of laws. Dr Rosovsky then addresses the convocation, after which the chaplain says a closing prayer.
