The journal imparts stories of the Emporer's inspection of his fleet at Cronstadt, the port of St. Petersburg, meeting the "Queen of Hurons" in Quebec, a journey up Mount Ida in Turkey, and various other adventures.
In the letter Gowan Gives the history of his connection with the Orange Order from his admission in 1818 in the County of Wexford, Ireland, to the date of writing. He also outlines the position of the Orange Order in Upper Canada in 1832.
