Queen's, for Alumni

Various different Queen's professors and administrative faculty present a series of clips showing important research and events happening across Queen's in 1980-1981, presumably created for alumni. Clips are of research by different engineering departments, football updates, the appointment of Agnes Benedickson as Chancellor, and random stock shots of Kingston. Each clip lasts from 1-5 minutes.

Two issues of a video news magazine created for Queen's alumni. Issue no. 1 begins with Dr Watts begins by talking about recent projects on campus. Graham talks about her research in the Arctic region on Inuit land claims. Aitken talks about his research into recovering downed aircraft. Canvin discusses his research in wheat production. Dinsdale discusses his research into radiation. Issue 2 begins with Dr Watts speaking about recent events on campus. Footage from the previous convocation is shown. Dr Kamphuis talks about his research into waves. Morris talks about research into silk. Swainson talks about Canadian politics. After issue 2 comes a segment on using computers.

Fundraising Video / Alumni Program

First half of video consists of edited clips of several Queen's alumni talking about how the world is becoming more connected and how Queen's can prepare students for the future. Scope of video shifts from how Queen's is a fantastic school to how Queen's is in need of money and is fundraising. Second half of video is a duplicate of the first half, with roughly 2 minutes more footage used.

Installation of Principal David Smith

Main Speaker: Agnes Benediskson, David Smith, Keith Norton
Location: Grant Hall
Begins with procession entering the hall. University chaplain opens with a prayer, then Benedickson welcomes everyone and declares Smith principal of Queen's University. Smith then addresses the convocation with a speech. Afterwards Norton speaks on behalf of the provincial government in regards to the appointment. Smith then presents Jill Ker Conway, William McNeill, Henry Rosovsky, Erich Vogt, and Ronald Watts with an honourary doctorate of laws. Dr Rosovsky then addresses the convocation, after which the chaplain says a closing prayer.
