Fonds consists of correspondence, articles, diaries, subject files, news clippings, scrapbooks, photographs, manuscript notes, notebooks, cartoons, watercolours, and medals. Adam Shortt's involvement with Queen's University, his work as Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, his work as first Chairman of the Board of Historical Publications of the Public Archives, his active career as a public speaker, and his creative output are all reflected in the papers. There is also a large series of autographs that Shortt collected over the course of his life.

Fonds consists of the diaries (2 volumes) of William Smith, containing a detailed narrative of his activities in England and his first seven months in Quebec dated January 1784 to May 1787. The entries cover events, institutions, political affairs and descriptions of persons encountered by W. Smith. The first volume includes one of the only accounts of Canadian affairs from a London vantage point given that the papers of Sir Guy Carleton were destroyed. The second volume deals predominantly with Quebec.

The material for the war years is voluminous, covering administration, intelligence summaries, operations, and war diaries. The material relating to the Imperial Defence College is fairly complete and the material on the Defence of Canada, intended for a book on the topic, is also of interest.

The fonds consists of correspondence, memoranda, diaries, material by and about J.W. Dafoe, subject files, scrapbooks and miscellaneous pamphlets. The correspondence files, arranged chronologically, contain memoranda of confidential interviews on Canadian politics, trade, the economy, external affairs, defence. Often these memoranda are in the form of letters or vice versa, so the two have been filed together. The Diaries written by Grant Dexter in 1938-39 while he was in England touch on many aspects of Canadian External Affairs. Also included is a diary kept by Grant Dexter's wife Alice, outlining their life in London in 1937.

The fonds consists of correspondence, subject files, writings, addresses, and speeches relating to connections with major Canadian companies, Canadian Wartime Prices and Trade Board, 1940-5, and Royal Commission on Banking and Finances, 1961-63. There is also a collection of diaries that cover the period 1966 to 1982, however, they are, for the most part, daily calendars showing appointments and meetings. In addition, there is a list of the Queen's University Board of Trustees names, including Chairman J.D. Gibson. As well as a ballot for the election of a new member of the Board of Trustees.

Collection consists of scrapbooks, accounts, diaries, photos, etc. of Knapp-Anglin- McCuaig family; watercolour of Fort Frontenac, Tete du Pont; Collection consists of land records relating to Kingston and area families including Derbyshire, Hodgson, Leonard, McLeod, Moon, the Opinicon Ranching Company, and Wiskin; financial records relating to the Knapp family; and subject files relating to the Canadian Women's Chritian Temperance Union, G.A. Stinson & Company, The King Edward Hotel Company Limited, and a former Japanese student studying at Queen's named Toshi. Also included a book of pressed flowers from Jerusalem.

These genealogical files, which relate mainly to Bay of Quinte and Loyalist families, contain correspondence, research from printed sources, newspaper clippings and some photographs. Also included is a set of ordnance survey maps of Kingston and area dated 1869.
