Fonds consists of numerous scrapbooks (5) pertaining to life in Pittsburgh township primarily comprised of news clippings about families, businesses and municipal concerns in the area. One volume is dedicated to the quilting history of the Township. There are also 2 volumes of Tweedsmuir History with material related to Pittsburgh Women's Institute and the clubs, societies, sports, farms, buildings, events, schools, trees, churches and families of Pittsburgh Township. One of the Tweedsmuir volumes has family histories arranged by lot and concession numbers. Of particular note is an example of the needlework skills of the members in the form of a tapestry designed by Antanas Tamošaitis for the Township offices.

The fonds consists of photocopies of correspondence related to James Douglas' mining endeavors in the United States with a focus on Copper Queen Consolidated Mining in Arizona, where he was president. Also, includes some personal correspondence. The majority of the correspondence was sent to Douglas. Other materials include a booklet on the Douglas Hospital, an archives fact sheet on Dr. James Douglas II, and correspondence about the Douglas Chair of Canadian and Colonial History.
Correspondence, 1851-1856: some of the correspondence is between Smythe and his fiancee (and later wife) Ida Jones from Brockville. Ida was a known artist of the area and had some art displayed in exhibitions. diary, 1878, and legal documents, 1863-1878.

Of particular interest are two visitors books (1853-1863) which record the comments of members of the Board of Directors who visited the House of Industry every four or five days.
