History

John Lorne McDougall was born in Tayside, Ontario in 1900 and educated at the University of Toronto where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1921 and a Master of Arts in 1923. He did further post-graduate work at Harvard University and the London School of Economics. He began his teaching career as an instructor in economics at the University of Texas during 1925-26 and at the University of Toronto during 1926-27. In 1927 he left teaching to become a statistician with Canadian General Securities where he remained until 1931 before returning to teaching. He joined Queen's University in 1933 and remained until his retirement in 1965. He died at Kingston in 1986.
