Administrative history

Quarry Press was founded in 1965 on the campus of Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. Quarry Press has established several key lines and series of books - Quarry Music, Quarry Health, Quarry Heritage, New Views on Canadian Artists, Civic Images, and Canadian Children's Classic Series. Other lines include the New Canadian Poets and New Canadian Novelists Series, International Author Series, Out of This World Science Fiction Series, and Canadian Literary Classics Series. Besides publishing 15 regional, national and international titles, Quarry Press also produces three literary magazines -Quarry Magazine, Poetry Canada and Canadian Fiction.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of manuscripts for books published by Quarry Press, correspondence with authors, administrative and financial records. Included are submissions and related files for Quarry Magazine, Canadian Fiction Magazine and Poetry Canada, as well as manuscripts, notes, photographs and edited copies for other publications by Quarry. The fonds also contains some research notes and photographs for each of the books published by Quarry. The manuscripts include original typescripts, edits, galley proofs and finished publications. The fonds contains the following series: Correspondence, Administrative records, Financial records, Marketing, Promotion, Manuscripts, and Magazines.

Physical condition

Good, except for 4 files of Quarry Magazine that were water-damaged and mouldy.

Immediate source of acquisition

Earlier material transfered from McGill University Special Collections. Later accessions donated by Quarry Press in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004.
