Item is an window-matted top-half oval portrait of Sir John Coape Sherbrooke; Governor of Lower Canada 1816-8, Governor of Nova Scotia,1826(b.1760-d.1830). below the oval portrait is " Sir John Sherbrooke K.B. (1796), possibly telling the date of the source photo. on the matt, in pen, bellow the image tety above the Window-mounted parchment signature of the subject is "Sir John Coape Sherbrooke :Gov of L. Can. 1816- Gov of Nova Scotia 1826." Above the portrait on the matt is a bacl-matted crest showing a dog and a hourse with the Latin "Ne Quid Nimis" below, possibly the subjects family crest.
