Browne was born in Belfast, apparentlyof an architect father, in 1811. He came to Quebec in 1830. During the 1837-8 rebellion he evidently held a commission in the militia. By1841 he had been appointed government architect and moved to Kingston. During his stay in Kingston Browne executed a variety of buildings including CityHall, Rockwood Villa and the Presbyterian Manse. He died on Nov.19,1885 and is buried in Montreal.
