This fonds consists of correspondence, reports, research notes, drawings, plans, sketches, photographs and slides, and clippings relating to the the restoration and interpretation, under the Directorship of Reginald R. Dixon, of the National Historic Site known as Bellevue House, Sir John A. Macdonald's home located in Kingston, Ontario; files relating to his time as a senior bureaucrat in the National Historic Sites Service of Parks Canada; a section of his autobiography entitled, 'I was Forged on the Anvil of War, Chapter 9 - The Bellevue Years' (1998); and 'Bellevue House: An extract from the autobiography of R.R. Dixon' (2000).

Also includes a published transcription of the two journals, which includes transcriptions of letters to his future wife, Barbara, and photographs.

The fonds predominantly consists of of James' research notes, grant applications, interviews, correspondence, articles and drafts for his book and exhibition (at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre) on Albert Chesterfield: A Fur Trader's Photographs: A. A. Chesterfield in the District of Ungava, 1901-04 (1985). There is also a draft of his book Locations of the Sacred and material pertaining to Arthur Twomey's Needle to the North, which James edited for Oberon Press in 1982. Also includes James' research for the Religious Diversity Project, documenting religious organizations in Kingston, Ontario.
The fonds consists of correspondence, memos, speeches and clippings related to Decima Research and Allan Gregg's work with the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada, as well as correspondence, contracts and demo recordings relating to his work as co-manager of The Tragically Hip and Executive Producer of Big Wreck, The Watchmen and various other bands. The records include polling data and presentations made throughout the 1980s and early 1990s for the Progressive Conservative government, speeches given to corporations and associations across Canada, and slides for Decima Quarterly.
