Cook by special permission from the original painting in his lordships possession, published by John Dowding (Newgate Street, London), of John George Lambton Durham, born 1792 and died 1840, was a British politician elected to the Commons in 1813 and elevated to the Lords in 1828. He was a significant part of the Reform Bill of 1832 but retired in 1833 before becoming ambassador to Russia 1835 to 1837. In 1838 he went to Lower Canada to research the causes of the twin rebellions in Upper and Lower Canada and published his Report on the Affairs of British North America in 1839.
