Biographical history

The Science Formal dance is the most prestigious social event of its type at Queen's University. First held in 1930, the formal is organized by and for the graduating class of undergraduate engineering students. The event occurs late in the fall of every year and takes place in Grant Hall and part of Kingston Hall.

Custodial history

This material was donated by Stuart Bridgeman, Sci '74, who was a student at Queen's University in the early 1970's. He was a member of the team that designed and produced the sets and theme of the 1974 Science Formal. He donated the material to the Archives in June of 2006.

Scope and content

This collection is comprised of memorabilia from the Science Formal of 1974. The theme of the formal was "Lothlorian" from Lord of the Rings. The collection includes drawings of designs and plans for the set-up of the formal, two batik flags which were used as decoration, and a beer stein and set of matches which were made specifically for the formal.
