The material covers the period from his earliest American accountancy training in 1923 through his professional career and public career as Auditor General of Canada 1960 to 1973 to his present interests. It is in his role as watch dog and critic of government spending that Mr. Henderson is best known and the major part of the fonds is concerned with this role. Mr. Henderson's frank and articulate comments and criticisms of government expenditures and procedures aroused public interest and conflict with the government, especially that of Prime Minister Trudeau. These aspects are well represented in the fonds, along with Mr. Henderson's significant, but less visible, international accounting work.

Fonds consists of correspondence, manuscripts, diaries, speeches, lectures, research notes, writings, published works, subject files, photographs and material related to organizations to which Lower belonged. Literary files from the Executors of the estate of A.R.M. Lower which include unpublished articles. Also included is an audio tape recorded in Kingston, Ont., April 13, 1971 which is a discussion of recent Canadian history, as well as Dr. Lower's views as expressed in the book Canadians in the Making. Dr. Lower also answers various questions concerning his philosophy of history as it relates to his philosophy of life.

Author files deal with all aspects inherent within the publication of that author's manuscript. The reseacher is able to trace the development and the forces that come to bear upon the publication, from the initial submission of a manuscript to the ultimate printing and sale of that manuscript. Manuscripts, typescripts, galley proofs and press proofs of most published manuscripts are included in the fonds.

The fonds consists of photographs taken by Hazelgrove depicting limestone buildings in Kingston and the surrounding area. Includes a finding aid and map, which lists the location of each building.
