A number of files on the Children's Aid Society (dealing with administrative matters only) relate to the years 1870 to 1969. This invaluable collection of petitions illustrates many of the problems of rural life and is of great importance for the social historian. Other files relate to pipeline construction, railways, census statistics (including one for Portsmouth Village in 1858), and weed control. In addition there are files on many aspects of the First and Second World War (including great production of food, returning soldiers, gasoline rations, meat rations, and the Memorial Committee).
