Roads and Bridges

Series contains files relating to individual roads and bridges throughout the County. In addition there are files of correspondence and bylaws relating to these subjects. An interesting section relates to toll roads (1850 to 1907). Another important section contains studies and documents relating to the proposed International Bridge from Cape Vincent to Kingston. This series also contains a substantial collection of Roads and Bridges Committee Reports for the period from 1853 to 1972. Other files relate to the closure of roads, claims against the county for roads in disrepair, the purchasing of machinery for road work, ferries and waterways (including the Wolfe Island Ferry, 1850 to 1860), traffic laws and snow removal. Occasionally maps are attached to documents.
